Brenda’s red dress says, “Party Time” and the progression of the drawing shows the struggle to get to the party with a finished drawing.

As the Covid pandemic began to change our lives in the spring of 2020, I found myself like many others staying at home and wondering how to make this time productive.

I have always observed aging hands and faces with great respect for the amazing character of the wrinkles and the stories that are told in the multitude of lines, but this statement gave me another way to think about the art of aging.

Taking a photograph is just the beginning of what I see.

I am compelled by mystery.

Without the distraction of color and the flurry of growth I see better the outlines of life and art.

As a portrait artist I have been told often that understanding anatomy is important in the development of my drawing skills. When a class was offered by sculptor Rick Casalie, I eagerly signed up. 

I began to wonder what drawings and photographs I might have that would visually illustrate the connection between faith and visual art.

Enter deeply into nature’s form and beauty.

There is no gaze more beautiful and peaceful than that of a nursing mother and child.
