Star of the Show
Dear Friends,
I am at a loss for words when it comes to the excitement felt when my friend and fellow artist Edwin Lockridge came to the Green Hills Library for an afternoon of “Meet the Artist” and to view my charcoal portrait exhibit. The portrait of Edwin became the star of the show as visitors to the exhibit asked him questions and loved seeing the model and the drawing together. Edwin is an amazing person.
Getting to know Edwin came when he exhibited his art at the Belle Meade United Methodist Church in Nashville. At the Green Hills Library we chatted and I learned that he had been drawing since he was a young child. In his young adult years he was a print and runway model for several department stores in Nashville and was voted best dressed young man in his 20’s. Working at Baptist Hospital as a surgical technician gave him skills for caregiving that he would later use in the care of several family members. The fascinating face of Edwin also shows struggle as his life was dedicated to the care and love of his family. His mother and father both recently passed away.
Edwin does art as often as possible. He gets materials for his assemblage art at locations in Nashville that offer free supplies to artists. Much of Edwin’s art incorporates found objects and automobile parts. His work is currently on display at the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville. Thank you Edwin for being my friend and for the privilege of drawing your portrait.
